Umno has Abandoned Najib

Umno has totally lost that feeling for Najib Razak. And for justice.
Zaid Ibrahim
At one time, I thought Umno could legitimately raise issues to help the man. One is the denial of legal representation at the last stage of his appeal. This is the most basic human right, but he did not get it, and Umno did nothing about it.
Two, there was the pardon or reprieve from the King to confine him to his house. The reprieve is lawful and should be observed and carried out, but not to Najib because the Madani government did not know where or who kept the addendum.
In short, they do not want to get involved with Najib. Again, Umno did not do anything. Not only that, but they become complicit in many things
Today, Najib tried to get a discharge from the IPIC charges that they had hauled him six years ago. The prosecution was not ready, and they are now trying to reclassify certain documents after six long years. Can you believe this?
Six long years and the case was not ready. Still, no one thinks Najib has suffered an injustice. Not even Umno
(Had The IPIC agreement been accepted, IPIC would have returned the US7.5 billion they said Najib misappropriated. But they disowned the deal. If they received the money from IPIC, then the case against Najib would be hollow)
To Umno members, I say your reluctance to stand up for your leader on the most fundamental justice issues is sickening. The Minister for Reform is helmed by an Umno leader. What does she have to say?
In Scotland, if the prosecution is unable to proceed with the case after three years, the law requires the case to be withdrawn. This is to ensure that the legal system does not oppress anyone and that justice is a transparent process.
In Malaysia, justice is discretionary. But the problem with unfettered discretion is that it keeps us living in the Animal Farm world, where discretion serves the interest /helpful of some but not others.
Most cases are withdrawn for reasons that baffle most people. No one is allowed to question the exercise of discretion or end up in contempt/ jail.
Maybe that’s why Umno members are so afraid to defend Najib Razak, who still can’t get his case withdrawn after six years since he was charged
I will be speaking to some Pas sympathisers tomorrow; maybe they have a stronger instinct for justice.
