Wee Ka Siong: BN’s track record better than governments post-2018

Barisan Nasional (BN) has a better track record than the governments after 2018, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

(NST) – He cited achievements in various projects and aid initiatives for the benefit of the people when BN was in power.

“The Pan Borneo Highway project was (implemented) during (then Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“It is an example of improving infrastructure and enhancing connectivity by linking remote areas to main roads, thus providing more job opportunities.

“Another significant initiative (by BN) was the BR1M (1Malaysia People’s Aid), later rebranded multiple times as BSH (Bantuan Sara Hidup), BPR (Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat), BKM (Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia) and now known as the Tunai Rahmah contribution.

“They say it is ‘dedak’ (bribes), but the cash distribution is actually a social safety net for the welfare of the people,” he said during the Sabah BN convention, here, today.

Wee also said BN’s focus went beyond making transformation, but also on ensuring the quality of life of Sabahans so they could work, live and play better.

He added that when Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya formed Malaysia in 1963, it was not easy to uplift the people’s socioeconomic status in a fair and equitable manner.

Despite the challenges, he said, BN had proven to bring development to the nation.

Wee added that BN would learn from previous lessons and would plan its strategies so that the coalition could win and dominate more state and parliament seats.

Present at the event were BN chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Kadir, treasurer-general Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Sabah BN chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.
