PH Youth ready to support BN candidate for Nenggiri by-election
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth wing has pledged full support to the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the upcoming Nenggiri by-election, set for August 17.
(NST) – PH Youth Gua Musang chief Nor Amin Shafiq Ismail said they were ready to actively support in the battle to wrest the Nenggiri state seat, and said the PH machinery would also offer its assistance.
“In Sungai Bakap, BN supported the PH candidate. Therefore, the PH Gua Musang Youth wing is committed to extending our full support to the BN candidate,” he told Berita Harian today.
He said PH would mobilise its resources as the geopolitical landscape in Kelantan was different from that in Sungai Bakap.
Nor Amin also said they would also be addressing various pressing local issues affecting the community, including matters on development.
“In Gua Musang, key issues such as land ownership and job opportunities are critical and have been handled poorly by the state government.
“We fully endorse the decision to nominate Umno Youth Gua Musang chief and Umno Youth Kelantan chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, as the BN candidate for the Nenggiri state seat,” he added.
Nomination day for the by-election was fixed for Aug 3. BN had taken the unusual step of announcing its chosen candidate early, on July 18.
The Nenggiri by-election was called after the Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the state seat previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim vacant.
Mohd Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, is among the seven elected representatives sacked from Bersatu for declaring their support for the unity government.
During the Kelantan state election in August last year, Mohd Azizi secured a slim majority of 810 votes to win Nenggiri in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
