Police ban rally in front of Anwar’s Tambun office

Police have prohibited a gathering planned for tomorrow in front of the Tambun Parliamentary Community Service Centre in Bandar Meru Raya.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police discovered a video on Facebook indicating that a rally was set to be held at the centre.

He said police had received a notification under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 from rally organiser Save Malaysia Secretariat for a rally dubbed ‘Himpunan Mahkamah Rakyat Hukum Anwar’ at the location.

“The notification is incomplete and does not comply with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“We advise the public not to participate in the gathering as it is considered illegal,” he said today.

He said strict action could be taken against anyone participating in the rally.

He said the decision to prohibit the rally was based on the lack of permission from the landowner, as required by the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

On June 29, about 150 people dressed in black gathered at the parking area of the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya to present eight demands to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Organisers of the ‘Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar’ had reportedly said they would hold another rally at the Anwar’s Tambun parliamentary constituency if he did not address the eight demands.
