Chegubard arrested in Putrajaya, says lawyer
Rafique Rashid Ali says the arrest follows the Bersatu man’s allegations of corruption involving a senior naval officer.
(FMT) – Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, otherwise known as Chegubard, was arrested by police in Putrajaya today, according to his lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali.
In confirming the arrest, he said Badrul was apprehended at 3pm at the Putrajaya police headquarters.
The police are investigating him for giving false information under Section 203A of the Penal Code, wrongful communication under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, and misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Rafique said in a statement.
He added that the investigation was over Badrul’s allegations of corruption involving a senior naval officer.
The police will apply for remand at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court at 9am tomorrow, Rafique said.
Yesterday, Badrul claimed that the police raided his house on Friday while he was away.
He said the raid followed his posting on Facebook about him possessing a confidential document that falls under the Official Secrets Act 1972.
FMT has reached out to the police for confirmation of his arrest.
