Sanusi confident PN can win Nenggiri with 2,000-vote majority
The Perikatan Nasional election director says the coalition’s ‘wave’ has reached ‘every inch of land’.
(FMT) – Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor is confident the coalition will not only be able to defend the Nenggiri seat, but win with a 2,000-vote majority, given its intensified campaigning in Orang Asli areas.
Sanusi said his forecast was based on the voters’ reception of PN candidate Rizwadi Ismail, adding that the PN wave had swept every inch of land.
I am confident we will achieve a greater victory than in the previous state election, given the reception. I am sure the majority won’t be less than 2,000, he said after a meet-and-greet event with voters at Renok Baru here today.
The Nenggiri seat was declared vacant by the Kelantan assembly speaker following a notice from Bersatu that Azizi Abu Naim had ceased to be a member of the party.
BN had won the Nenggiri seat in four consecutive elections since 2004 before losing it to PN in last year’s state election, when Azizi defeated Umno’s Ab Aziz Yusoff with a majority of 810 votes.
Sanusi said PN will work hard to convince Nenggiri’s Orang Asli voters, from whom the party had only garnered about 100 votes in the last state election.
“We shouldn’t underestimate the over-2,000 Orang Asli voters. We will organise our machinery to meet them. Distance is no longer a barrier today as we have various ways of communicating our message.
The PN wave is sweeping across the whole country and flooding every inch of land, including the Orang Asli areas, he said.
He also dismissed claims by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that the party was riding on Bersatu’s strength, following Rizwadi’s nomination as the candidate.
We are sincere in our cooperation with Bersatu. We (PAS) are like the elder brother, if the younger sibling has weaknesses anywhere, we will support them. That is PN’s role, he said.
Sanusi also challenged BN to prove its sincerity in its alliance with DAP and provide candidates for future elections as PAS has done for Bersatu.
I hope that one day if DAP has no candidates, Umno members can join DAP as candidates, he said.
