K’tan MB sidesteps questions on high salary compared to state GDP


Kelantan Menteri Besar Nassuruddin Daud sidestepped questions over his salary, which a Malaysiakini report indicated was not commensurate with the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) per capita figures.

“Am I earning that much? Scrutinise it. There’s no need to ask (about salary).

“Between RM30,000 and RM20,000, which is higher? That’s why there is no need for me to comment (on this),” he said when participating in the Neggiri by-election campaign in Kampung Pasir Tumboh, Gua Musang.

According to a KiniNewsLab special report, the salaries received by Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu, and Pahang heads of government are around the RM30,000 mark – higher than the RM22,826 received by the prime minister.

When it comes to Kelantan, the menteri besar earns RM20,000 monthly.

However, that is 19 percent higher than the state’s GDP per capita, which is at RM16,836 as of last year.
