Amirudin prefers to stay in Selangor rather than be a minister

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his preference to continue leading the state rather than taking up a federal minister post.

(NST) – So far, he has not received any information suggesting he would be removed from Selangor to join the federal Cabinet, he said.

However, he added that as a loyal party member, he would comply with any responsibilities assigned by party leadership.

“For the continuity of our planning in Selangor, I prefer to stay because I want to ensure that all aspects of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) are delivered to the people and that our promises are fulfilled.

“It could impact the performance of the state and the party, in my view. But as a disciplined party member, I will follow and carry out any responsibilities assigned to me today and in the future,” he said after launching the Selangor People’s Tuition Program (PTRS) 2024 at Dewan Raja Muda Musa.

Amirudin made these comments in response to speculation that a Menteri Besar from PKR might be appointed as a full minister.

He also mentioned that he was unaware of the motives behind the rumours regarding his potential appointment as a minister.

“I do not know the intention behind these rumours. According to (previous) reports, I should have been removed as Menteri Besar a long time ago,” he said.

Regarding reports that Selangor might consider reshuffling the State Executive Council members after a year in office, Amirudin said that such actions would be taken as needed.

“Speculation about a state-level reshuffle is also a good reminder for everyone to work harder for the people and ensure that we meet our commitments.

“Reshuffles can happen at any time due to factors like illness, death, or other reasons.

“But for now, I have a strong team in Selangor, and they are happy working together. However, I acknowledge the need for performance improvement to strengthen our services after a year in administration,” he added.
