(TMI) – UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is ready to be investigated over allegations that he deceived then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on statutory declarations (SDs) during the process of appointing the prime minister after the 15th general election (GE15).
Speaking to reporters, the deputy prime minister said he has solid evidence related to the powers given to him by the MPs to form a government.
“I hope the authorities, whether the police, the Registrar of Societies or the attorney-general, can conduct the investigation.
“The 10 MPs who signed the SDs did so to delegate the power to form the government to the BN chairman,” he said after the People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) annual general meeting.
Bersatu Youth chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir filed a police report against Zahid, who previously said he had 30 SDs from BN MPs backing Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
Akmal urged the authorities to investigate whether there was any deception or attempt to mislead the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the appointment of the prime minister after GE15.
During the Nenggiri by-election campaign last month, Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin claimed he had enough support from MPs to be sworn in as the country’s 10th prime minister.
However, he said, the king decided to choose Anwar instead.
Zahid explained that the Bersatu president did not have sufficient support because 10 out of the 115 MPs had overlapping signatures, involving both BN and PN.
On August 24, Muhyiddin was charged with sedition in the Gua Musang sessions court under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948.
