MACC: Probe into YTL’s 1BestariNet tender based on recent JKSTUPKK, PAC findings
The investigation into YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL) over the 1BestariNet tender is based on recent findings from the Governance, Procurement and Finance Investigation Committee (JKSTUPKK) and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) reports received in August.
(The Malaysian Reserve) – In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the findings from these two reports reveal several weaknesses, including low broadband coverage, infrastructural technology deficiencies and incomplete broadband access at schools.
It said public information and complaints have also indicated that the project failed to deliver the required broadband speeds needed to enhance the learning process in schools effectively.
“In addition, it was found that the 1BestariNet service tender, originally planned for 15 years with a value of RM4.07 billion, was shortened to seven years and six months without reducing the contract value.
“Despite the service not meeting its objectives, it is understood that the company has made several claims against the ministry that require detailed investigation to verify the issues,” the statement read.
