Bring motion of confidence to Dewan Rakyat next month: PM to opposition
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the opposition to present a motion of confidence in the upcoming parliamentary session on Oct 14.
(NST) – Speaking at the Himpunan Gerakan Rakyat event at Axiata Arena today, he said that the opposition should adhere to the law and noted that he cannot simply resign from his position.
“There are 30 people telling Anwar to step down. They act as if the country has no laws and no system.
“If you want me to step down, bring the confidence motion to the Dewan Rakyat session this mid October… even if the motion is late, I will approve it,” he said.
Present were PKR vice-presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Chang Lih Kang, secretary-general Fuziah Salleh and information chief Fahmi Fadzil.
Today’s gathering commemorates Sept 20, 1998, the date Anwar was arrested and later imprisoned for his fight against alleged abuses of power, corruption, nepotism and cronyism.
In honor of the 26th anniversary of the event, a gathering, Himpunan Gerakan Rakyat was organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in collaboration with a coalition of non-governmental organisations, activists and students at Axiata Arena.
Earlier this month, several Pas representatives and leaders demanded that Anwar resign at the party’s 70th Pas Muktamar.
