Makkal Sakti’s bid to join BN up for supreme council discussion
Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia’s application to become a Barisan Nasional component party will be brought to its supreme council meeting.
(NST) – BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said consensus among all component leaders is necessary before the party becomes part of the coalition.
BN components parties currently include Umno, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
“As we know, we have friends of BN who have applied for this (to be a component party), and this is no longer a secret as it has often been discussed.
“As mentioned by the BN chairman (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), this decision must be made by consensus. I hope we can revisit our understanding among all the key component leaders,” said Zambry after officiating Makkal Sakti’s 16th general assembly here today.
Also present were MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and Makkal Sakti president Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran together with leaders and delegates at the party’s general assembly today.
Zambry said the party is making efforts to give bigger roles to parties which are friendly to BN, including considering their membership in the coalition. He said Zahid would soon announce new approaches when it comes to the friends of BN.
“For example, the People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP), was previously a key component party… (this matter) will be proposed for discussion in the BN supreme council meeting,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a press conference, Thanenthiran reiterated his party’s unwavering support for BN, despite the pending approval for them to become a BN component.
“Today, I see the support of the Makkal Sakti for BN remains strong.
“We will continue to stand with BN, even though for several year, we have applied to become a component party without success, and our wish (application) has not been fulfilled.”
He also expressed hope that Zambry would bring their proposal for joining BN to the supreme council.
“Besides that, we also applied for senatorship seats, which has been pending and yet to be fulfilled.
“Just now Saravanan also supported our application, as we are one of the friends of BN that has yet to any senatorship despite the others having them.
“We hope this will be granted soon, as it could bring a new spirit and energy to party members.”
