Pahang Bersatu group quits ahead of party elections
State party treasurer Roslan Hassan says Bersatu’s top leadership lack integrity and have failed to fulfil their responsibilities.
(FMT) – Pahang Bersatu treasurer Roslan Hassan led a group of 40 state chapter members who left the party today, just hours before the party’s elections tomorrow.
In a statement, Roslan said the group had lost confidence in Bersatu’s top leadership and accused them of being in disarray, dishonest and untrustworthy.
He also claimed they lacked integrity and failed to fulfil their responsibilities, adding that the party has not provided a proper reason for suspending Bentong Bersatu’s committee in September.
Roslan, who was then Bentong Bersatu chief, said he suspected that the chapter’s committee was suspended because he voiced disagreement with several amendments presented at Bersatu’s convention in July.
“Calls for trust and integrity are merely rhetoric by Bersatu’s current top leadership … There have been many instances where the goalposts have been shifted to favour certain parties,” said Roslan, who was also the Pahang Perikatan Nasional treasurer.
“I believe the public is aware that many Bersatu leaders are increasingly revealing their negative traits in managing the party. The public is certainly hesitant to place such leaders in charge of governing the country.”
Earlier today, Bersatu’s election committee said the leadership of 10 divisions had been suspended, although Bentong was not included in the list.
Committee chairman Abdul Azim Zabidi told FMT the divisions will not be able to convene for the elections tomorrow, which are usually held at the respective divisions.
The divisions are Bukit Bendera, Bukit Mertajam, Cameron Highlands, Hulu Langat, Jasin, Kota Melaka, Machang, Tanjong, Tapah and Teluk Intan.
Meanwhile, three state assemblymen from Terengganu will retain their positions as heads of their respective Bersatu divisions tomorrow after being unchallenged for their posts, reported Berita Harian.
They are Kijal assemblyman Razali Idris, Seberang Takir assemblyman Khazan Che Mat, and Permaisuri assemblyman Yusop Majid – who head the Marang, Kuala Nerus, and Setiu Bersatu divisions respectively.
The chairman of Terengganu Bersatu’s election committee, Zaid Sulaiman, said Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid will also remain the Hulu Terengganu Bersatu chief after no candidates decided to challenge him for the post.
