Why is there such inexhaustible hatred for Tun Musa Aman?

Despite being a man of humble origins who rose to the pinnacle of power, is respected by millions, and always chooses to put the nation first, Tun Musa Aman is the target of a despicable nexus of Opposition parties, media houses and foreign-funded organisations. From slander to hurling personal abuses, this network of people will do everything to demean and denounce him.

Musa Aman was cleared of corruption allegations, including by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in Hong Kong, which found no case against him.  The Malaysian courts, the MACC, and the attorney-general had also exonerated Musa from the allegations. Musa was given a clean chit.

Last week Sabah’s longest serving Chief Minister, Tun Musa Aman received his letter of appointment as the 11th Head of State, following consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Back in KK, Musa gets a rockstar’s welcome from crowds some say 6 thousand as he descended from a private jet at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, to begin his new assignment in his distinguished career – this time as Sabah’s 11th Governor.

Over his illustrious career, Musa served as State Assemblyman for Sungai Sibuga for six terms (1994-2020) and held prominent positions, including Sabah Finance Minister, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department, Yayasan Sabah Chairman and even Malaysia’s Honorary Council of Bangladesh.

Before Musa got into politics, he was a very successful businessman. He was the first Sabah Bumiputra to own a finance company in the 70s. He was also President of Sabah Bumiputra Chamber of Commerce.

If you look at Sabah from a historical perspective today, we seem to be in the middle of a storm that needs to be crossed if we are to sail into smoother waters. And this storm is nothing but a whirlpool of personal hate, determined efforts to break the nation, acts of sedition and the invasion of evil forces which are destroying peace, law and order, and our collective prosperity. Unreasonable protests, unscrupulous political alliances and irrational arguments are being developed in the public space to undermine our governance.

The nation is in the sabre-toothed grip of personal hatred for a man who is counted among the most committed, selfless, hardworking and visionary personality. Musa does not come from a privileged background. His sincerity, hard work, good intentions and virtuous deeds raised him to the highest pedestal of power in Sabah and it is our fortune that a selfless leader like him will be the Head of the state.

The people of Sabah—the electorate, the poor, the oppressed, the hopefuls, the young ones, and everyone who wants Sabah to prosper, to secure a fulfilling life for themselves and their progeny—have repeatedly elected Musa until 2018. However, a section of the society—the press and social media, a cohort of power brokers that have faded to political irrelevance and divisive forces and stooges of foreign powers that get pleasure from seeing political unrest in Sabah—has come together to oppose every move and every thought of Musa.

Their aim is obvious—to slander a man who is honest to the core and has the trust of people, the strength of commitment and a vision for progress.

A series of anti-establishment articles, instigating students on campuses have established an anti-Musa cohort which has used every tactic against him.

What colossal sin has Musa committed ? And what brings such elements, including the political bêtes noires, together when it comes to cursing the new Governor? Is it his commitment in the past to correct the political blunders of the Warisan? Is it Musa’s humble family and origins or his global popularity that is causing such discomfort to his haters? Is it his firm stance against the politics of minority appeasement or his policy of ‘Nation First’ that is displeasing the self-appointed liberals?  Why is there such inexhaustible hatred for Musa?
